Since its original publication in 1975, and through its two subsequent editions, SANTA BARBARA ARCHITECTURE has been treasured by its readers as a most valuable contribution to the literature on the built environment of this most charming city. Wayne McCall’s rich black and white photographs cover the entire sweep of the architectural story of Santa Barbara, from the earliest Spanish and Mexican adobes up to the modern additions to the landscape by architects such as Morphosis and Michael Graves. As is only fitting, a large proportion of the buildings covered are from the Spanish Revival period, buildings that have contributed so much to the unique look of Santa Barbara. The several hundred photographs are accompanied by informative captions and chapter introductions that place the various eras and styles in their social and artistic contexts. This edition is an exact reprint, with minor corrections, of the 1995 third edition. The book is beautifully produced, bound in imitation black morocco, with a clear plastic protective dust jacket.
