Book Condition Untitled Document

New Books

Books in the condition we received them from the publishers.

Remainders

Books we have obtained to sell at sale prices. These books may not be in new condition, or they might have remainder marks on them.

Rare, Out of Print, and Used

These are books we have bought, often in collections, and their conditions can vary. If no specific description is given, the book can be assumed to be in standard very good + used book conditions. We use some other terms as well:As new. A book, notwithstanding its age, is comparable to a book fresh from the publisher.

  • Excellent. Sharp, no defects, but not in new condition.
  • Very good. These books might have some minor signs of wear, but are clean and sturdy.
  • Reading copy. This describes books in very bad physical condition that are still valuable for their contents.
  • Shelf wear. Even the best books carefully stored, will eventually show signs of shelf wear.

Specific flaws are noted as seen, and we will be happy to offer a more detailed condition description if needed.
